Statement
A large part of my work and interests have been directed at architecture and nature in unity with each other. Architecture is inherently sociopolitical and holds strong connotations with the ideology associated with each particular style. In contrast nature is immune and unaffected by such ideas. The imagery of these two occurring together is extremely surreal and fascinating to me, and can frequently be seen in everyday settings, through things as unassuming and overlooked as a weed growing through a brick wall, or something as pronounced as a tree consuming an abandoned building. I often find these occurrences left unnoticed by others, but I always find them so striking in their unconventional beauty. I tried to capture this phenomenon by making it unmistakeable and surreal in my work, inspired by artist and writer Shaun Tan, and conceptually inspired by conventional dystopian settings seen in works such as the novel and film The Children Of Men.
